Jaime Escalante: Inspirational Math Teacher

After teaching math and science in Bolivia for ten years, Jaime
Escalante went to the United States to find a better future for his
family. He arrived in California speaking little English with only his wife's
relatives to help him. Through much hard work, he earned a degree
in mathematics. He made it back into the classroom and inspired
inner-city youth to pass the A.P. calculus exam. His efforts prompted
Hollywood to make the movie Stand and Deliver about his life and
dedication to his students.
